Dennis Kelly at Southwark Playhouse

Sunday 14th November 2010, 8pm

Tickets £8

Listen to Dennis in conversation with Matthew Dunster about his life, career and work; hear a reading from one of his plays; and join us in discussion with Dennis about his themes, styles and methods of writing.

Dennis Kelly’s work has featured assault, abuse, infanticide and torture. His plays frequently celebrate the contradictory nature of the human psyche in a uniquely spare and truthful style. Fast becoming one of our greatest contemporary playwrights Kelly’s writing is tense, raw and exciting, with the emphasis always on emotion before intellect. Plays include: After the End (Traverse Theatre/ Bush/ Paines Plough, 2005); Love and Money (Manchester Royal Exchange/ Young Vic, 2006); Orphans (Traverse Theatre/ Birmingham Rep/ Paines Plough, 2009); The Gods Weep (Hampstead Theatre, 2010)

‘We can think that someone is the best person in the world and two weeks later realise we always hated their guts.’ (Dennis Kelly interviewed on Orphans)
